COVID-19 Updates

March 11th, 2020 – 5PM

Finger Lakes FRC Regional (FLR) at RIT is still a go.  This could change before or during the event as RIT is taking direction from the local Health Department every hour.

Load in begins at 6 pm tonight!

We are back down to a 48 team event.  So I am going to go through and recap some items.

Building entrance:

Lines won’t be as long but to speed up the security process, we ask that you leave any backpacks or bags that aren’t needed behind at the hotel or at home so that you can get through security faster.  Doors will open at 7:30 am Friday and Saturday. You will be able to access the stands but not the fields or the pits.  Note:  Pits will still open at 8:30 am on Thursday and 8 am on Friday and Saturday.

Pit Size:

We are back to 10’ x 10’ pit size

Load In (no change):

Wednesday March 11th 6-8pm

Thursday, March 12th 7:45am – 8:30am

Load Out (no change):

Saturday, March 14 following alliance selections (approximately 12:30 pm)

Please remember during load in and load out access to Fox Lane (the road directly in front of the venue) will be controlled by security officers under the direction of RIT Public Safety. Generally, no vehicles will be allowed onto Fox Lane during the FIRST Robotics Event. Exceptions will be made during scheduled load in and load out dates/times. During these times security may temporarily hold additional vehicles and equipment from entering to keep Fox Lane clear from obstructions that would inhibit the response of emergency vehicles. As vehicles leave, more may be allowed to enter during scheduled load in/out times.

Vehicles that show up before the appointed time maybe asked by security to stage in G/H lots until the appointed time.  Additionally, security may record the license plate numbers and date/time in and out of all vehicles entering/leaving Fox Lane.

Detailed load in/out instruction are available here.

Parking:

Upon load-in each team will receive one parking pass for a regular sized vehicle to park in D Lot next to the field house.  All vehicles with trailers and buses MUST park in G/H lot.

Dean’s List:

Dean list interviews will be taking place THURSDAY beginning at 10 am.  Please be sure that any students from your team that will be interviewing are on site and prepared by that time.  Scheduled times for interviews will be available at Pit Admin. Thursday morning.

Chairman’s Award:

Chairman’s interview times will be posted in pit admin on Thursday morning.  Interviews will be all day Friday and carry over into Saturday.

Per FIRST guidelines, all scheduling will be done using random.org

COVID-19 Precautions:

If you are ill, DO NOT COME!

If you have family members that are ill, immune suppressed or have serious chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or lung disease encourage them to stay home and watch the live feed at https://www.twitch.tv/firstinspires1 .

RIT Risk Management states the following:

Attendees are encouraged to follow everyday preventative actions such as:

Hand Sanitizing  Stations:

RIT is providing additional hand sanitizing stations throughout the venue.  Please utilize them!

Safety Glasses:

BRING YOUR TEAM’S SAFETY GLASSES AND EXTRAS FOR YOUR GUESTS.

We will NOT be providing and re-using safety glasses that have been previously worn by other participants.

Team members forgetting their safety glasses will need to obtain them on their own or sit in the spectator seating area. The same holds true for the general public. We encourage you to purchase additional safety glasses for your teams and any family members that will be anticipating visiting the pit area.

We recognize this is an inconvenience and will limit pit access to the general public but feel it can be a valuable step to help ensure the safety and comfort of FRC event guests.

Ear Plugs:

Ear plugs will not be available on site.  Please remember to bring ear plugs for any team members who might have sensitivity to load noises.

Gracious Professionalism:

Your gracious professionalism will be more important than ever and clearly on display.  Many teams had to make last minute plans to get here and may need assistance.  We also have four teams from Brazil that have never been to our area before, please make them feel welcome.

Additionally, space is limited so you will need to share!  Share your seats (Don’t reserve large areas in the stands for the entire weekend!) Share scouting tables and most importantly share your enthusiasm for FIRST.

On behalf of the entire Finger Lakes Planning Committee, we are looking forward to seeing you all this weekend!

Safe travels!

March 9th, 2020

Coaches and Teams,

There is much to cover.

First, let’s discuss the elephant in the room.  Yes, at this point the Finger Lakes FRC Regional (FLR) at RIT is still a go!!  We are ready and optimistic.  As you know, this COVID-19 situation is evolving minute to minute.  FIRST and RIT are doing our best to ensure that this event moves forward.  Should circumstances change, we will inform you as soon as possible.  For now, let’s assume we are all going to spend a fabulous weekend together.

To accommodate teams who were registered for postponed events and left without a place to play, FLR has worked with RIT to expand their event capacity to 60 teams.  In order to do this, some accommodations were necessary.  We appreciate your help and know that you understand how important these events are to your fellow FRC participants.

Building entrance:

With the large numbers of teams, we are expecting extended lines and wait times to enter the building through security.  To speed up the process, we ask that you leave any backpacks or bags that aren’t needed behind at the hotel or at home so that you can get through security faster.  There will be a security line dedicated for those without bags to be checked. We are looking into having doors open slightly earlier at 7 am Friday and Saturday in order to allow more time to get teams through security.  You will have early access to the stands but not the fields or the pits.  Note:  Pits will still open at 8 am on Friday and Saturday.

Pit Size:

Pits will be 9’ x 10’ instead of the usual 10’ x 10’.  Please refrain from bringing pop ups or any pit assembly that requires more space than that.

Load In (no change):

Wednesday March 11th 6-8pm

Thursday, March 12th 7:45am – 8:30am

Load Out (no change):

Saturday, March 14 following alliance selections (approximately 12:30 pm)

COVID-19 Precautions:

Safety Glasses:

We will NOT be providing and re-using safety glasses that have been previously worn by other participants. This recommendation is in response to the discomfort some may feel in sharing safety glasses in the current environment and the fact that it is difficult to ensure that safety glasses will be adequately cleaned upon return.

Please be aware that with the increased number of teams, your gracious professionalism will be more important then ever and clearly on display.  Many teams had to make last minute plans to get here and may need assistance.  We also have four teams from Brazil that have never been to our area before, please make them feel welcome.
